Rachael Elliott — Polka the Elk

October 5, 2011

Polka the Elk is a new release by Clog’s bassoonist Rachael Elliott (featuring Padma, Thomas and Bryce on several moments along the tracks). With a very different mindset away from Clogs recent releases (except maybe on the final track Bed and Rest where Clog’s play along Rachael), Polka the Elk may take you several listenings until you feel comfortable with it. You won’t find here catchy melodies or easy tunes, instead you drift from one mood to another with a strange feeling of being lost on a numb dream drama taking place on some ancestral foggy forest.

My liking for Clogs is centered on this uneasy dark flavor that mainly comes from the bassoon, so this new piece specially With Eyes Cast Down is music to my hears. Hopefully Clogs will take this track again for their next release, they did it supremely on tracks like Yeri Ali, Nº3 and Compass.

Beautifully difficult music, just like I like it. Listen more and buy it here.
